Anon. "Crowing Crested Cobra," The Northern Rhodesia Journal, Vol. 1 (1950)
We have heard little recently of the crowing crested cobra but in the 1930's and early 1940 there was much correspondence about this strange Northern Rhodesia creature in the Journal East Africa and Rhodesia. The correspondence seems to have ended with a note concerning an inquest which was held in 1940 at Namwala on a native who had died from snake bite. The oldest inhabitant insisted that the snake was a "Nyukanga" described as a reptile 300 [30?] feet from head to tail, with a red gullet, and which crowed like a cock. It lived in trees. It is rumoured that the District Commissioner returned a verdict of "Death from Supernatural Causes".
